What We Are Learning!
Math - We are in the middle of a short Time unit. Students will be working on being able to tell the time on an Analog clock as well as working on drawing specific times on a clock. Students will be asked to differentiate between a.m. and p.m. as well as working on a little bit of elapsed time knowledge.
We are also still working on our multiplication basic facts. You can support your child by having them complete multiplication flashcards daily in order to increase their speed and recall. Ask your child to share the story I told them about how I learned my multiplication tables as a child, they may be hesitant as they viewed it as torture :).
Language Arts - We are working on our story writing unit as well as completing a novel study on The Tale of Desperaux. We will start by analyzing our novel in relation to the story writing skills that we are learning while also practicing story writing skills on their own. You can support your child in this by asking him or her to analyze the novels they are reading at home and pinpointing good story writing techniques (entertaining beginnings, detailed and descriptive sentences, suspense leading to the main point etc.). We are also working on our summary writing skills. Students have been working on sequencing and writing clear paragraphs that include transition words, introduction sentences and closing sentences.
Inquiry - We are in the middle of our First Peoples unit. Students will be learning about the First People traditions and beliefs. Our unit focus is 'Our Stories tell us who we are and where we come from". Students have been relating First People stories to their own history and belief systems.
